Alex Riley and Ryback Bury John Cena

The recent wrestling news this week has people buzzing as former WWE talents Alex Riley and Ryback had some choice words about John Cena. Riley, who last worked for the WWE in May 2016, recently spoke with Jim Ross on The Ross Report. In the interview Riley discusses his start in WWE, turning down a high paying gig in the medical field, and the current poster boy, John Cena.

Riley didn’t get into any detail about what transpired between he and Cena but did give enough to whet some appetites.

“I’ll put it this way. There was an incident and it certainly changed the path of my career. I don’t want to discuss it right now, but I will one day for sure. I will one day. It was a tough situation at times, I guess we can leave it at that.” Riley continued, “and, honestly, JR, I struggle with the morality of even talking about it and I’m not into blowing up anybody else at this point, but I promise you this, I will address it one day for sure. You don’t want to know. It was a tough situation.”

Ryback wasn’t as nice with his words.

On Conversations with The Big Guy he stated, “John’s blocked on my Twitter. I blocked him, he’s legit [blocked], I blocked him a long time [ago]. He [has] been a piece of s–t to me since Day One. And people, the guy, I was nothing but nice and respectful to him and I know Alex Riley just came out and [admitted he had issues with Cena] and when people hear what really happened with that, they’re going to lose their s–t. Like, and I know, I have a pretty good idea of what happened with that and the guys in WWE…”

Ryback added, “but John would sit back there and bury Riley in front of everybody for no reason and Alex Riley is f–king money and he was money from Day One. Busted his ass, had awesome theme music, worked his ass off, went out there and got a reaction from the people, but because of John Cena and I swear to God, I swear to f–king God, because of John Cena, his career is over in the WWE for no f–king reason outside of John and his personal issues. Unbelievable.”

Cena was also called a “poison”.

My Take

When it comes to John Cena it doesn’t take much to rile fans up. Watching the WWE will let you know how fans feel about the highly-decorated superstar. Half the crowd loves him, the other hates him. The IWC, who tend to be pretty vocal in their disdain of Cena, will undoubtedly eat this up. I won’t call this a tactic to keep your name in the news but it’s not hurting on that front.

Stories about wrestlers throwing their weight around aren’t new and they aren’t surprising. You’ll hear those type of things in all sorts of professions. People don’t like to lose their spots. Cena has always played the guy who is all about the business and someone who is willing to put in all he can to be on top. So I’m open to believing these two former wrestlers.

I still remember when Riley was teamed with The Miz. I remember Riley’s awesome theme song. He was decent in the ring. I was a fan. That short-lived feud with Miz was an entertaining time when it came to Riley. His return to the ring down in NXT, didn’t do much for me, though. Whenever Riley chooses to unload his side of the story I’m sure he’ll find an audience waiting.

The artist formerly known as the Caribbean Playboy, Shane still loves the ladies of the squared circle (wassup, Ember Moon?). Much to the chagrin of the other guys, he’s also the resident TNA sympathizer.

  • I’m sure a lot can come to light about Cena. Had a reputation of getting with all the Divas, when he was in a relationship and when they had other relationships, and now it’s coming out he’s had a lot of issues with the boys. You can only play super saint for so long before the dirt gets revealed.

    • Sure, but it does come off slightly like here are two guys who are bitter and they are going to try to dirty the name of someone who is succeeding. Pro wrestling has always had that reputation as a political place where guys are going to look out for their own. It’s not right but it’s something known from the door, I feel. Let’s not forget the story about McMahon asking who will step up and do whatever it takes and Cena went to him and said he’ll be his guy. Clearly, Cena was ready to do whatever he needed to protect his spot.
